Remaining Gracious in Defeat

By Rob

I hate losing.

My entire life, I have hated losing. And now, we have lost.

By we, I don’t mean Republicans and I don’t mean conservatives. I don’t mean John McCain or Sarah Palin; Elizabeth Dole or Jim Gilmore.

By we I mean the authentic proponents of freedom. America IS a center right nation, regardless of the socialist we just elected. Americans are opposed to a welfare-nanny state, corporate welfare, fading morality and loose crime laws.

President-elect Obama ran on tax cuts, eliminating government waste and reforming Washington DC. Senator McCain ran on buying people’s mortgages and keeping taxes steady. Both candidates ran on theme of bipartisanship and change. Who did we think was gonna win?

In 2006, after Democrats gained control of Congress, conservatives were pummelled by liberals for weeks with gloating that one would expect to see when a girl beats her boyfriend in Basketball. We will see the same this year. We have been instructed by the likes of Peggy Noonan, John McCain, and other “conservatives” to remain respectful and gracious of those that just beat us at our own game. We have been asked to be congratulatory and supportive of America’s new President.

I don’t buy it.

I will always and forever respect the office of the Presidency of the United States and the man (or woman) who holds it. I will not, however, fall on my knees praising him, congratulate him on his distortion of issues the led to his victory, or approve of his policies. In fact, I will not stop fighting to defeat every policy initiative he proposes, given that they all stay similar to what he campaigned on.

Did we lose because of Sarah Palin? Exit polls say so, but I don’t buy it.

Did we lose because of George Bush’s unpopularity? Exit polls say so, but I don’t buy it.

John McCain is the definition of a bipartisan senator. He is the perfect example of an independent. Barack Obama is the example of a left-wing extremist.

Obama won moderates and independents 60%-39%.

Extremism DOES in fact, win elections. People do not want moderates, as the Median Voter theorem suggests. Reagan was no moderate. W Bush was no moderate. Obama is certainly no moderate.

American voters want confidence and leadership. They want tax breaks and encouragement. Obama brought these to the table, using them to decorate his ideas tyranny and what will become a new form of indentured servitude of the American worker. John McCain brought status quo and steadiness. Steadiness is not popular during poor times.

Even if McCain had won, there still would have been no victory for conservatism or America. McCain’s record of bipartisanship would almost guarantee negotiating with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid on nearly everything they propose. However, a McCain victory would have prolonged the inevitable decline of the economy and our freedoms. Honestly, I would have rather held on to them as long as I could.

What we are sure to see now is a quick and certain economic collapse. Taxes will go up, business will go under, homes will be lost, and freedom will be scarce. I am not being extreme and I am not being hyperbolic. This is what President Elect Obama’s policies guarantee.

I find good only in that it will happen so quickly that by 2012 people will have a different mindset. American conservatives have some major reconstruction to do internally.
